Why we wrote this (honest disclosure)
DeluxeScribe is a transcription tool.We compete with some tools on this list. Every “Otter alternatives” page you’ve read was written by a vendor who put themselves at #1. Read.ai’s listicle ranks Read.ai first. Notta’s listicle ranks Notta first. Fellow’s ranks Fellow first. It’s a vendor-vs-vendor SEO arms race and readers lose.
We chose to rank ourselves at #3because that’s where we honestly fit for most Otter leavers: Fireflies wins the meeting-native #1 slot (it’s Otter done better in the same shape), and Fathom wins the free-unlimited #2 slot (it’s the only genuinely free option). We win a real niche — file-first transcription with high accuracy at a fair price — but that’s not most Otter users’ primary need.
When another tool is the better answer for your situation, we link to it and say so. That’s the deal.
Methodology — how we ranked
Four criteria, weighted equally. Explicit rubric so you can weight differently if your situation differs from most Otter leavers.
| Criterion | Weight | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| Transcription accuracy | 25% | Word Error Rate on clean English + top non-English languages |
| Feature depth for switch reason | 25% | Does the tool solve the specific problem you left Otter for? |
| Pricing transparency + value | 25% | Real cost per hour of audio; free tier value; no hidden paywalls |
| Product focus vs Otter | 25% | Is it doing the same job better, or a different job well? |
What we didn’t rank on
- G2 review counts — review farming is a known industry problem
- User counts / logos — vanity metric, tells you nothing about fit
- Integration count — 200 integrations vs 20 rarely changes daily use
- Recency of launch— new isn’t better; battle-tested matters
Accuracy caveat
No vendor publishes head-to-head accuracy tests on identical audio. The accuracy figures below come from a mix of vendor claims (marked as such) and Whisper paper benchmarks (for tools known to use Whisper). We didn’t run our own head-to-head test — we’d rather cite honest ranges than fabricate specific numbers.
The 10 Otter.ai alternatives, ranked
1. Fireflies.ai — the meeting-native #1 for most Otter leavers
Best for: users who want everything Otter does but done better.
Wins on: calendar integration, meeting bot, English accuracy, cleaner team workflow, transparent pricing.
Falls short:file-upload workflows (it’s meeting-first), single-user pricing (per-user model gets expensive fast).
Pricing: Free (limited transcription) → $10/user/mo Pro → $19/user/mo Business.
Accuracy: 90–95% English, 85–92% top non-English (vendor-claimed).
Honest note:Fireflies is Otter’s closest clone with slightly better meeting features and clearer pricing. If your only requirement is “Otter but better,” stop reading and try Fireflies.
2. Fathom — the free unlimited king
Best for: users leaving Otter over price, especially teams.
Wins on: genuinely free unlimited tier on Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. No meeting cap. No file cap.
Falls short: English only, limited export formats, US-focused features and integrations.
Pricing: Free forever (all meeting platforms supported), $19/user/mo Premium for team features.
Honest note: The only genuinely free unlimited option in this category. If price is your issue with Otter, try this first — the free tier is enough for most solo professionals.
3. DeluxeScribe — the file-focused honest alternative
Best for: users who need file transcription (podcasts, interviews, uploaded recordings) plus high accuracy at a fair price.
Wins on: 99 languages, Whisper large-v3 accuracy (92–98% English), .srt/.vtt/DOCX/JSON export, 60-min free tier, $10/mo entry pricing, files up to 5 GB.
Falls short:no calendar auto-join, no meeting bot, no mobile app. Upload-first workflow means it doesn’t fit users who want “Otter but better.”
Pricing: Free 60 min → $10/mo · 1,200 min → $20/mo · 3,000 min.
Accuracy: 92–98% English, 90–96% top 15 languages (Whisper large-v3 baseline).
Honest note:We’re not a meeting-native tool. If Otter’s calendar auto-join is what you’ll miss, skip us and go to Fireflies. If you like uploading files and getting accurate transcripts with proper exports, we’re a strong fit.

4. tl;dv — the meeting-native cheap option
Best for:teams wanting meeting recording + AI notes without Otter’s price.
Wins on: generous free tier, GPT-4 summaries, chapter markers, Zoom/Meet/Teams support.
Falls short: accuracy slightly behind Fireflies, English-focused, less mature product than Otter.
Pricing: Free (limited features) → $18/user/mo Pro.
Honest note: Fireflies for cheaper, or Otter for cheaper — both are fair characterizations. Legitimate option, not the top pick.
5. Fellow — the manager’s Otter
Best for: 1-on-1s, team leaders, structured recurring meetings.
Wins on: agenda templates, action item tracking, structured feedback tools, direct-report management.
Falls short: less useful for transcription-first use cases; a different product shape than Otter.
Pricing: Free → $11/user/mo Pro → $19/user/mo Business.
Honest note: More like a meeting management tool with transcription than a transcription tool with meetings. If your Otter use is mostly 1-on-1s and team leadership, this fits better.
6. Notta — the polyglot’s alternative
Best for: multi-language teams, non-English podcasts and meetings.
Wins on: 104 languages, clean UI, decent free tier, mature product.
Falls short: pricing scales fast at volume; per-user model gets expensive for teams.
Pricing: Free 120 min/mo → $8.25/mo Pro → $16.67/user/mo Business.
7. MeetGeek — the automated meeting workflow tool
Best for: teams wanting summaries auto-synced to CRM/Notion/Slack.
Wins on: automation depth, integrations (60+), meeting analytics, dashboard reporting.
Falls short: less flexible than Otter for one-off recording; automation setup takes work.
Pricing: Free 5 hrs/mo → $19/user/mo Pro.
8. Descript — the editor’s alternative (different product)
Best for: podcasters, video editors, users who edit audio by editing the transcript text.
Wins on: text-based audio editing (unique in the field), screen recording, publishing tools, overdub voice cloning.
Falls short: overkill for pure transcription; expensive per-hour.
Pricing: Free 1 hr/mo → $24/mo Hobbyist → $50/mo Creator.
Honest note:Not really an Otter alternative — it’s a different tool. Users leaving Otter because they’re actually creators (podcasts, video content) should stop here. If you just want meeting transcripts, Descript is overkill.
9. Rev AI (self-serve) — the human backup
Best for: legal, medical, journalism, high-stakes accuracy work.
Wins on: 99%+ accuracy on human-reviewed tier, pay-as-you-go pricing, no subscription commitment.
Falls short: 24–48 hour turnaround for human review; expensive per-minute; not designed for daily meeting use.
Pricing: $0.25/min AI, $1.50/min human-reviewed. No monthly plan.
Honest note:When AI isn’t good enough and human review is the answer. Not a daily-meetings tool.
10. Read.ai — the “AI-first” answer
Best for:users who want engagement analytics + AI Q&A chat interface on transcripts.
Wins on: sentiment analysis, meeting scoring, chat interface for asking questions about the transcript.
Falls short: accuracy less well-established than Fireflies or DeluxeScribe; expensive at scale; analytics features feel gimmicky to some users.
Pricing: Free 5 meetings/mo → $19.75/user/mo Pro.
Honest note:Read.ai’s own “Otter alternatives” page ranks #1 on Google — but that’s SEO signal, not product quality signal. Read.ai has real analytics features that matter for some users. For most Otter leavers, it’s not the top switch. Try only if the meeting-analytics angle specifically matters.
Honorable mentions

- Circleback, Sembly, Jamie— newer Otter-clone entrants; try if the ones above don’t fit
- TurboScribe Unlimited — $10/mo unlimited hours pure transcription — see TurboScribe Alternatives for that comparison
- Self-hosted Whisper— if privacy or cost is the real reason you’re leaving Otter, see How to Transcribe Audio for the setup path

Pricing reality — what you actually pay per month
Otter’s marketing implies you can start at $8.33/mo (education tier) or $16.99/mo (Pro). Below is what teams and solo users actually pay for equivalent functionality. Verified July 11, 2026.
| Situation | Otter (baseline) | Cheapest equivalent | Best-in-class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo user, occasional meetings | $16.99/mo Pro | Fathom (free) | Fireflies ($10/mo) |

When to stay with Otter (the honest caveat)
Every “Otter alternatives” page assumes leaving is the answer. Sometimes it isn’t. Stay with Otter if:
- OtterPilot works reliably for you— you like the calendar auto-join, meetings get transcribed without effort, and other participants haven’t complained. Switching means rebuilding the workflow.
- You’re on the education tier ($8.33/mo) — teachers and students get a genuinely good deal here. Hard to beat if you qualify.
- You have team seats already— the friction of migrating a team of 10+ is real. Unless you’re actively unhappy, don’t churn just because a listicle told you to.
- Otter’s AI chat and summaries are core to how you work — the Otter chat interface for asking questions about transcripts is competent. If you rely on it daily, the switch has a real learning-curve cost.
- The specific integrations you use are Otter-only — some CRMs and calendar tools have Otter-specific integrations that alternatives don’t replicate. Check before switching.
Switching for switching’s sake is worse than staying. Have a concrete reason.
What we didn’t rank (and why)
- Consumer-only tools (Google Recorder, Apple Voice Memos) — different product category, not meaningful Otter alternatives for teams
- Enterprise-only (Verbit, Sonix Enterprise, VoiceIQ) — different buying process, sales-driven pricing, wrong audience for this page
- Trint — has been going quiet; product updates slowed, pricing high ($48/mo for 7 hours); avoid unless you have a legacy reason
- Happy Scribe, Simon Says, Sonix — legitimate transcription tools but positioned more for agency/professional workflows than the Otter user profile
- Zoom’s built-in transcription — improved a lot but still meeting-only, no export options worth using; discussed on Zoom Transcription
